about green club
Green Club is a student-led group at Sheldon High School dedicated to helping the environment. We participate in a variety of environmental activities both in the school and across the community. We have done everything from planting trees to participating in the EWEB Earth Day celebration to collecting caps and gowns for reuse after graduation.
Last year we raised over $2900 to replace half the existing old, unsafe bicycle racks in front of the school with newer, more secure ones. The new racks were installed in late March, and they have gotten rave reviews since then from bikers. This year it has become our goal to rid Sheldon once and for all of those 1960s wheel-bender bicycle racks.
Through our bike rack project we came to know many cyclists and bicycle-related organizations and businesses, but unfortunately it seems like many cyclists aren't even aware of the resources and businesses our community has to serve them. That is why we have organized BikeFest -- not just to raise money for new bike racks, but to help connect bicyclists with the services in the community that are there to serve them.
